What do you love most about the job?
The flexibility, I like being able to pick and choose when you want to work and where you want to go.
How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?
I always ring the pick-up and drop-off contacts 24 hours before to find out when I can collect/deliver and confirm the address.
Also, leaving a little earlier in case of traffic issues helps.
What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?
Probably delivering to Northern Ireland and some remote parts of Scotland - areas I’d never usually get to visit 🤩
How many miles do you do on average a week?
I’d say around 1500.
What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?
Planning ahead is vital. Early starts help to avoid traffic, and having a friendly working relationship with regular customers always speeds things up.
What drives you to succeed in this job?
Knowing that the work I do is down to me, no one tells me where to go or what to do. So I make it as enjoyable (and profitable) as I can 👍
Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?
I use a desk diary to write down jobs as I get them, and then I put in my expenses and travel costs after the job is done.
I’ve started using Quickbooks for my tax return, which is much easier than paper-based accounting.
What are you most excited about this year?
Doing more travelling now that the Covid restrictions are being lifted ✈️
What makes Engineius a special place to work?
The ability to find work easily and being able to work as much or as little as you want.
What is the best advice you can give other drivers?
Plan ahead, if it’s a place you’ve never been before, ask other drivers or ring the customer.
Ops are there to help, too, so don’t be afraid to ask!
