Rental

From traditional daily rental companies to new disruptive models, Engineus works with a range of rental providers. Engineius delivers vehicles out to end-users, redistributes vehicles across branches, and moves used fleet stock to defleeting centres.

The line between Rental and Leasing is increasingly blurred, however rental generally covers all hire events up to one month.

Whilst traditional daily rental companies still dominate the market in the UK, there is increasing innovation in the sector. Distributed models (such as Zipcar) are giving users increased convenience, and B2C models (such as Turo and Hiyacar) offer wider-choice, lower-cost models.

Hertz: Full movement support

Engineius started to support Hertz in May 2018 as one of our very first customers. Hertz initially saw the value of Engineius as a cost-effective way to move vehicles between branches and to defleet.

However, as Engineius expanded to offer a deep network across the whole of the UK, the value of Engineius to Hertz is providing one central place where all vehicle movements could be booked and tracked all in one place.

Engineius gives Hertz’s central team and 100+ individual branches information on every movement, as well as comprehensive MI on cost and performance.

Movements include inter-branch movements, defleet movements, resale movements for Hertz Car Sales, and relocation movements for the Hertz 24/7 van fleet. We have also moved vehicles for special events such as major sports fixtures.

Engineius and rental movements

Delivery at the start of rentals (and collection at the end) is increasingly expected by corporate users and consumers alike. The “Amazon” effect of expecting delivery was already underway and has been accelerated by Covid.

For defleeting, vehicles need collecting from rental locations and depositing at auction or refurbishment sites ready for resale. This is high volume work as a vehicle typically spends only 6-12 months on fleet before being resold.

Finally, vehicles need shifting between locations to ensure they are best located to suit demand. Demand patterns vary by weekday and time of year as the balance of corporate and leisure bookings shift.

The key for rental companies is minimising vehicle downtime. Vehicle movement plays a key part in this to ensure a vehicle is located where it can be charged out (or taken off fleet).

Engineius has two key assets for assisting rental companies in doing this:

  • 400+ drivers across the UK that can collect and deliver individual vehicles

  • 100+ transport agent partners that can assist with bulk transported vehicle movement

This gives Engineius an unmatched breadth of resources across the UK to adapt to rental movement needs. Whilst the driven model might suit customer collection and delivery, the bulk model maximises the efficiency of inter-branch movements and defleet movements.
