Driver of the Month: August 2023
Congratulations to our driver of the month, David Clarkes and our other category winners - Mark and Rebecca!
David has been with Engineius for two years and has completed over 450 movements! We would like to give a big thank you to David for all of his hard work and outstanding effort.
Now, without further ado, read more about David and find out what he loves most about being a Self-Employed driver!
David Clarkes 🏆
What do you love most about the job?
For me, the best part is using my fold-up bicycle, especially during the warmer months and following Google cycle maps through a town or to some remote countryside address - seeing places I would never have visited otherwise!
How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?
It’s rare to be able to make up time on a journey, and if you do, it’s only a few minutes.
However, I give myself a buffer of 20% on each job to allow for unexpected delays such as traffic, road closures, train delays or cancellations, site delays and payment issues.
What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?
Meeting some interesting people, particularly those using Car Buying Group and having pleasant chats whilst waiting for payments to go through.
How many miles do you do on average a week?
I’d say my weekly mileage will be about 500 based on working an average of 3 days.
What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?
Remain cheerful and tolerant of hold ups outside of my control.
What drives you to succeed in this job?
Once I’ve grabbed a job, I feel a responsibility to endeavour to complete the movement to all clients’ satisfaction 👍
Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis
Yes, I always photograph receipts as soon as I get them and log all jobs on a spreadsheet with direct and indirect expenses.
I also use a free app that records all my train tickets and job expenses.
What are you most excited about this year?
Looking forward to visiting and travelling to new places in the coming year 🤩
What makes Engineius a special place to work?
For me the flexibility of choosing when to work makes it ideal. I always found the staff friendly and helpful, especially Tjeea.
What is the best advice you can give other drivers?
The drivers I’ve met whilst travelling have always seemed very knowledgeable and switched on so I wouldn’t presume to give advice.
For new drivers, I would say research your journeys carefully, allow a 20% buffer for incidental delays, beware of site closing times and don’t try and do too much in a day.
Our other two winners 🎉
By winning Driver of the Month or our two fantastic categories, you not only have the opportunity to feature on the company website, but you will also receive a brand new high-vis Engineius-branded jacket as a thank you from the Engineius team for all your hard work!
