Driver Of The Month: March

It is with great enthusiasm to announce Dave Egerton as the winner of our Driver of the Month award. Dave's professional approach to his job has ensured that consistency and kindness are at the forefront of every movement he completes!

We got in touch with David to find out more about his experience with Engineius to date.

What do you love most about the job?

The best part of the job is the flexibility! The support of the Ops team when things do go wrong is also a massive bonus. The chance to be out of the house earning money is great, and I have visited places that I haven’t been to before and met some really friendly, helpful people. Of course, I also get the chance to drive a wide variety of great vehicles.

How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?

I always try to arrange to arrive as early as possible in the given window. This gives a little leeway in case there are issues with transport. There are usually timing issues with the rail network at the moment, but hopefully, the full timetable will be running again soon.

What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?

Being chosen for this accolade has to rank high. The friendly Ops team has also been a huge factor for me.

How many miles do you do on average a week?

This job can be random at times! In some respects, my weekly mileage varies between 500 and over 2000. An average week would likely be 700 to 800 miles.

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?

Making use of the portal and the app to plan your week as far in advance as possible is key. I usually check both, at least twice a day. There is no substitute for advance planning, especially your journey to pick up!

What drives you to succeed in this job?

I love driving. Getting paid to do it is a bonus! As I am now close to retirement age, the flexible hours suit me. I want to deliver a great service to Engineius customers, something which I learned to do well in the hospitality industry.

Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?

One of my sisters is a chartered accountant which is very handy, so I regularly send her massive files of my receipts and invoices!

What are you most excited for this year?

The lifting of travel restrictions! Being able to visit family, friends and my favourite places is what I am looking forward to most. A return to a more normal life will be great, and I am also a firm believer that there will be opportunities to grow our personal networks to improve the service we offer.

What makes Engineius a special place to work?

As discussed before, it’s all about being able to plan your work. The Ops team is really helpful and friendly, and the drivers that I have met (sorry, I’m terrible with names!) have all been there to help out.

What is the best advice you can give other drivers?

Plan your days and weeks as far in advance as possible! Make sure to check transport links and timetables, and keep in touch with the Ops team if you encounter delays or any other problems.

By winning Driver of the Month, you not only have the opportunity to feature on the company website, but you will also win £20 in One4all vouchers. Keep up the great work and who knows, you may be our April Driver of the Month!
