Driver Of The Month: September
Our latest Driver of the Month winner is Carl, who has taken jobs in and out of Long Bennington into his own hands, providing the necessary movements required to help Engineius grow this year.
Long Bennington has historically been a difficult area for the company, but Carl has made a huge and impressive impact, providing the network management team with a clear winner of Engineius’ prestigious award for September.
From everyone at Engineius, we would like to also congratulate Carl on becoming a father this year!
As usual, we got to know our winner a bit more - read on below!
What do you love most about the job?
The best thing about the role is the ability to pick and choose your work. Other car delivery positions seemingly want you onboard 5 days a week, despite the self-employed status. At Engineius, I can do other work as required and also to look after my new daughter.
How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?
Planning is essential. You have to be good at managing your movements and being at one with Trainline and Google. Lastly, liaising with contacts at pick-up and drop-off is also beneficial as it enables speedier transfers when there’s a time crunch!
What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?
Meeting lots of people has been a surprise in the current COVID-19 environment. Driving all over the UK is a recent benefit, and some roads are better than others for sure. I’ve done a couple of Scotland trips recently and it’s nice driving through the mountains towards the sunset. It definitely beats motorways! Also, being steered through my first few jobs by Sam was a huge plus.
How many miles do you do on average a week?
My weeks are all different as I have other self-employed work that I do. Typically a week with Engineius can be anything from 500-1000 miles. I think I do more miles on the train in between jobs which is part of being flexible.
What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?
You have to be able to think ahead, which I’m sure most people do anyway! The smoothness of your day depends on what preparation work you’ve done to make it easier. The ability to also react to unforeseen events makes for an interesting day.
What drives you to succeed in this job?
I used to be a helicopter mechanic in the Royal Navy, so I like to do jobs properly, including being able to plan jobs and movements to make the most of available jobs.
Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?
This is essential to avoid confusion!
What are you most excited for this year?
I became a dad for the first time this year, so I have lots of exciting firsts coming up!
What makes Engineius a special place to work?
The ability to plan your own days and to do as little or as much as you want. Having a good rapport with planners also makes both of your lives easier!
What is the best advice you can give other drivers?
Remain flexible! Enjoy the job! And have a back up plan!
By winning Driver of the Month, you not only have the opportunity to feature on the company website, but you will also win £20 in One4all vouchers. Keep up the great work and who knows, you may be our October Driver of the Month!
