Employee of the Month: James Walsh

Congratulations to James Walsh, our Dev Ops Developer, for being awarded Employee of the Month.

This month, our employees voted for their colleague who displays our listen & act value.

We're thrilled to recognise James for his outstanding contributions and commitment! His ability to listen attentively and engage in insightful discussions sets him apart as a true team player. Whether it's brainstorming ideas or navigating complex challenges, James is always ready to lend a helping hand.

As a great problem-solver, he not only enhances system reliability for our Engineius portal but also implements seamless solution deployments that keep our projects on track and crafting innovative solutions to even the trickiest problems.

What do you do for Engineius?

As a DevOps Developer at Engineius, my role combines software development and infrastructure management. I work on the development of the Portal, adding new features, improving existing ones, and ensuring the overall platform is scalable and reliable.

I also focus on ensuring our systems are secure, available, and running smoothly, which involves implementing efficient deployment processes and monitoring system performance.

What motivates you to do well in your role?

I'm motivated by my desire to continually learn and expand my skills.

I enjoy staying up to date with the latest technologies and best practices, and I'm driven to apply what I've learned to real-world problems and projects. Being able to see the direct impact of my work on the Portal and our customers is very rewarding.

What playlist do you listen to in the car the most?

I've been listening to the 'Ludovico Einaudi Essentials' playlist a lot lately. It's a great collection of his music and it makes for perfect driving music.

What do you like most about working for Engineius?

What I like most about working for Engineius is the innovative and forward-thinking environment.

The company encourages continuous learning and professional growth, which is important to me. I also appreciate the strong sense of teamwork and collaboration, where everyone's ideas are valued.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

My favourite way to unwind after a busy day is by going to the park with my dog, Cleo. Spending time outdoors and watching Cleo play and explore helps me relax and clear my mind.

It's a great way to de-stress and enjoy some fresh air.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?

This week, I discovered a fascinating fact about Baddesley Clinton, a National Trust property.

The manor has secret priest holes that were used in the 16th century to hide Catholic priests during times of persecution. The ingenuity and history behind these hidden spaces are truly captivating.

Describe one thing you've learnt in your role?

I've enjoyed learning about CI/CD pipelines and processes. Understanding how to automate the integration and deployment of code has been incredibly valuable, as it helps ensure smoother, faster, and more reliable software releases.

What’s the most useless talent you have?

I've always enjoyed baking, but recently I've been expanding my skills by learning how to make sourdough bread. Creating and maintaining my own sourdough starter has been a fun and rewarding challenge.
