Carry-Overs and Related Expenses

It has always been the case that Carry-Overs are not automatic right of driver to utilise.

Even when a job comes with a window over multiple days, the protocol has always been to deliver the vehicle on the same day whenever possible.

Drivers are required to call into Ops to confirm carry-overs, as only Ops has full visibility over acceptability of the vehicle being held overnight.

It can change from customer to customer and there are insurance considerations too.

Ops are not there to make your life harder but they must be allowed to manage the job.

With Carry-Overs, there is also a misconception over related expenses.

To clarify, there will be certain expenses that will not be refunded if you take a vehicle home.

Where a driver has been afforded the luxury of using the vehicle to get home and avoid a cold start the following morning, we will not recharge the customer any additional fuel or tolls incurred to facilitate the carry-over.

Extra fuel or tolls that would not have been used had driver gone directly from pick-up to drop-off, are incredibly difficult to recharge to customer if it cannot be justified.

If the obvious route of the job does not require a toll crossing, the customer is not going to pay to get driver home.

The same applies, with time savings when tolls are used.  It is very hard to justify using M6 toll when very little difference in distance and/or time saving no longer a consideration.

These expenses may have been mistakenly refunded in the past and should not be taken as confirmation of official policy.

Ultimately, if we cannot re-charge a customer, we cannot refund it.

In these instances, it sadly not on customers to ensure drivers get home.
