Driving with Due Care and Attention

There is a commonly mistaken belief that drivers are not liable for accident costs as movements are covered by insurance which are arranged on a job-by-job basis.

Accidents do happen but this is another example of an 'avoidable' accident, where the driver was clearly 'culpable'.

We've seen a few drivers struggling with Rapid Charges of late, CCS plugs in particular.

Cars like the Jaguar iPace can be charged up at home with a Type 2 plug but they use CCS plugs at a Rapid Charger.

A message from Monty: Mandatory high-vis usage 🦺

Wearing High Vis is compulsory when conducting a vehicle movement for Engineius.

Suppliers are required to wear high-vis jackets or vests whilst in the process of collecting and delivering a vehicle (only optional when in transit).

This rule is enforced to protect the individual and is particularly relevant when conducting a movement that takes the individual into commercial venues. All commercial venues have safety requirements and by not wearing a high vis, you will be breaking site rules and placing yourself at risk.

As an Engineius driver, you are representing the company and our customers. Therefore, it is essential that you meet all safety requirements whilst conducting a movement.

Please be warned that repeat offenders will be deactivated from the network, as we will not tolerate any individual putting work at risk for the entire network.

Thank you for your attention.

Safe travels!

Changes to supplier availability feature 📱

The Supplier Availability function allows Engineius to understand when a supplier is available for work and when they will be offline. Unlike the previous version, you will now be required to actively manage your availability days, with the system defaulting to Unset until you have updated My Schedule. Previously, the system had defaulted to Available which resulted in a blanket approach by us when directing jobs as we had no means of understanding if the supplier was truly available. Read more.

How important is reporting damage? ⚠️

Reporting damage on all vehicles is important, but especially on new or nearly new vehicles. The network team had a situation recently where a driver missed some fairly minor damage on the inside of a new car door. However, the customer did notice it.

It was put in the driver’s drop-off photos. So, this means because the driver missed it at the pick-up, it then became our issue and cost the business around £60 to sort out.

We hope this emphasises how important it is to carefully look over a vehicle. Please make sure:

  • To conduct a walk-around inspection before you start taking photos.

  • To note that when you try to inspect and take photos simultaneously, it can become all too easy to get distracted and miss damages.

  • You never view photos as the bare minimum. Ensure to fully capture the condition of the vehicle and have enough photos to cover the entire section - don’t just take 1 picture. Remember, you can never take too many photos.

  • You need to report all damages to the customer (through the Operations team) and the pick-up location. Reporting to just the pick-up location/dealership won’t work, as Engineius will have no record of that conversation.

Fuel gauge, odometer photos and warning lights

Please ensure the engine is turning over before taking photos of the Fuel Gauge & Odometer. Failure could cause inaccurate fuel gauge readings and lead to false warning lights being displayed.

All warning lights must be respected and reported to either Operations or customers before you drive away from the collection point. As a rule of thumb, do not drive any vehicles with a red warning light unless you have been given specific authorisation. Amber warning lights are typically advisory but that does not mean they can be ignored.

Thank you for your attention on these points.

Speed limits for vans are lower than for cars

For those that are not aware, vans have a lower speed limit than cars:

van.png

On single-carriageway roads displaying the national speed limit sign, vans are limited to 50mph. The same rule applies on a dual carriageway, where the speed limit is 70mph for a car but is 60mph for a van. On a motorway, a van is typically allowed to run to the 70mph speed limit, the same as a car.

Please pay attention, especially on single and dual carriageways.
