Important Cycle Lane Red Route Changes and Other Common PCN's

TFL have announced, they may issue a fine to motor vehicles caught driving in a cycle lane on a TFL red route when not permitted.

Only cyclists and rental electric scooters can use cycle lanes. All other road users, including motorcycles and other types of scooters, are not permitted to use cycle lanes. Black taxis and Private Hire Vehicles are permitted to enter to pick up and drop off customers.

TFL may issue a fine to motorists who:

  • Drive within, or cross, the solid white line of a cycle lane when not permitted

  • Stop or park in a cycle lane when not permitted

The fine for red route traffic offences paid within 28 days is £160. If the fine is paid within 14 days, it will be reduced to £80. So for safety reasons and to avoid being fined please do not driving in the cycle lane unless permitted

PCN's, FINES and RESPONSIBILITIES

It is always the responsibility of the individual driving to ensure they comply with localised regulations, restrictions, and tolls.

Never assume any applicable tolls will automatically be covered by the customer. If you don't pay the toll, you will be liable for the resulting penalties.

To serve as a reminder, we have listed some of the more common penalties incurred by drivers for not paying the tolls or ignoring restrictions:

  • Dartford Crossing (no barriers, but you still must pay by midnight) - £73 fine

  • London Congestion Charge & ULEZ - fines from £60

  • Rotherhithe Tunnel (height, width & weight restrictions - no transits!) - £130 fine

  • Tyne Tunnel

  • Mersey Tunnel

  • Humber Bridge

Lastly, we continue to see PCN's being issued to drivers for overstaying at EV Charging Stations. Some Charging Stations have time restrictions, to ensure that nobody monopolises the unit (some are as short as 45mins!).

It is important that you check for this whenever and wherever you are charging an EV, or they will issue you a PCN.

Safe Travels,
