Engineius Reduce Their Carbon Output as They Offset for the 3rd Year
For the past three years vehicle movement specialist Engineius has maintained a carbon-neutral business by offsetting its carbon emissions. During this period the company has experienced sustained growth while successfully reducing its carbon output by 34% in year 2 and then another 15% reduction in the last year.
To give the figures meaning, the CO2 emission figure can be compared with the number of Europeans that would produce that amount in a year, based on the fact that each European emits an average of 8.7kg’s of CO2 per year. So, for Engineius it means emissions in year 1 were equivalent to 14 Europeans, in year 2, 10 Europeans and then in our last year down to 8 Europeans. A significant improvement.
Engineius works with Climate Partner to maintain consistent methodologies when calculating its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF). This includes emissions from sources such as energy and heating, business travel, office supplies, IT equipment and everything else produced. The business continually looks for ways to reduce their carbon output and this has been reflected in the CCF reducing each year.
Chris Clibbery, CEO and founder, Engineius comments: “We are delighted to see our CCF reducing for the second year running and to maintain our accreditation as a climate-neutral company. Engineius is determined to deliver the greenest possible solution in vehicle movement.”
“Our employee’s commute to work accounts for 49.3% of our carbon emissions. We chose the city centre of Birmingham for our Head Office, which means most employees commute to work using public transport, or even walking - this helps to keep our overall CCF for commuting as low as possible.”
Through carbon offsetting, Engineius has supported afforestation projects and is currently paying to support renewable energies in Asia, which includes the following projects:
- Wind energy projects in India, Indonesia, and Turkey.
- Solar energy projects in India.
- Hydropower projects in Turkey and Sri Lanka.
- Biogas and Biomass projects in India and Thailand.
Clibbery adds: “In the automotive industry, interest and demand for renewable energies is high, so we are happy to support these projects.”
How renewable energy contributes to climate action.
Renewable energies play a crucial role in climate action. One-third of greenhouse gas emissions stem from burning fossil fuels like coal and oil. This kind of energy generation is not only finite but has severe negative effects on the climate.
To reduce CO2 emissions, mitigate the effects of climate change, and meet an ever-growing energy demand, it is essential to promote renewable energy sources.
Clibbery concludes: “Small wins matter in the road to net zero, and we are all responsible for minimising our environmental impact. Engineius is proud to be reducing our CCF and paying to support sustainability projects. We will work with our fleet customers to ensure their vehicle movements support their own goals towards carbon neutrality.”
