The Car Buying Group Guide
Engineius collects used vehicles for The Car Buying Group (TCBG) from individual vendors across the UK. Before reading further, please watch our video for The Car Buying Group to understand more.
The key to doing a great job for TCBG movements by following the 4 key stages:
1. Give the vendor a great first impression
The first stage is to make sure that the owner of the vehicle has a great experience of handing over their vehicle. As the driver, you are representing not only Engineius, but also The Car Buying Group and their parent company Aston Barclay. Please make sure you do the following:
Be polite and well dressed (following Engineius attire guidelines) at all times
Call vendor 1 hour before you arrive at the destination
Call vendor when arriving at destination to advise of your arrival
Respect social distancing measures at all times - follow our latest contactless handover policy: Introduce yourself and confirm “We will be adhering to a contactless handover and keeping 2 m away from each other at all times” to the vendor but make sure that you are a minimum of 2m away from them at all times; if the vendor would like to see your ID, place somewhere they can see, and then move 2m away, so they can validate it themselves.
The vendor will leave the 2 sets of keys, and the log book (V5C) outside of the door for you to collect. Please check and upload photos of all the relevant documents
2. Photograph all visible damage to the vehicle
At pick-up, you need to photograph every piece of visible damage to the vehicle, however minor. This enables TCBG to verify the vehicle conditions. You also need to make sure you check the vehicle for different items as listed on the driver checklist. After taking all photos of the vehicle, you must call 0333 320 1614 and confirm to the vehicle purchaser that answer who you are, where you are calling from and you have taken all photos of the vehicle.
To summarise, photos should be taken following these principles:
Zero tolerance should be applied. Mark every minor scratch as minor damage. Take photo of minor damage at drop off too
Exterior, wheels, interior: Take photos of the vehicle exterior, a photo of each wheel alloy, and photos of the vehicle interior (seats & foot wells)
High quality photos: Photos should contain the entire part of the vehicle in question (e.g. entire vehicle must be shown when taking a photo of the near side of the vehicle)
Wheels at ground level: All photos of wheel alloys should be taken square on from wheel level, not from an angle
Open all doors to visually check for damages: As above, wherever you can see damage, make sure you take a clear photo of it
Interior damage is just as important as exterior damage; scratches, damaged to seats and trim etc all need to be photographed and uploaded to the portal
3. Make sure to ring TCBG to release the vehicle
When you have finished your photos, you must call TCBG on 0333 3201 614. You will speak with a representative who will confirm the vehicle condition is in line with the information they have received from the vendor with vehicle age.
The TCBG team will conduct appraisal and arrange for payment to be made. You will be paid the full abort fee if the vehicle condition is not up to scratch.
This step is essential. You must not leave the pick up location without speaking with TCBG. Waiting time is included in the job’s price (Engineius standard).
You should never, under any circumstances, be asked to test drive the vehicles. TCBG may ask the vendor to test drive the vehicle up and down the road, in which case you will be asked to stay on the line, but you should not be doing the test drive, it should be the vendors instead.
If you cannot get hold of TCBG, call Engineius on 0121 481 2111.
4. Check and validate the necessary documents
The final and one of the most important actions is to Inspect and collect two keys, the log book (V5C), service history booklet or any other material supporting service history of the vehicle. Check and report back to The CBG contact the number of previous owners (on V5C) and date of last service.
You will be called back to confirm when it is OK to for you to leave the with the keys, documents (V5C, service history, etc.) and the vehicle.
Ensure you leave the yellow slip of the V5C with the vendor - that is Section 9 for V5C pre 2019, or Section 4 for versions from 2019 onwards.
Please leave all documents in the vehicle when you deliver it at one of the Aston Barclay’s sites.
