Driver Of The Month: April

Ian_Bate.jpg

We have once again had another extremely busy and equally positive month at Engineius! This would not be possible without our brilliant drivers across the network who have been excelling all over the country, with a few key standouts identified by the Operations team.

Of course, there can only be one winner, so without further ado, we’re delighted to reveal our top driver of the month for April is none other than the excellent Ian Bate! Ian is very new to the business but already, in such a short space of time, has taken on every job with a noticeably strong work ethic and desire to provide an outstanding service, every time.

As usual, we got in touch with our winner to find out a little bit more about them and their experience with Engineius so far.

What do you love most about the job?

It’s been really good to have the flexibility that comes with the job which allows me to balance work and home life, and earn good money! I have visited places I have never been to before and enjoyed meeting new people, despite the current circumstances under Covid-19. The support of the Engineius team has been exceptional, especially as I am new to the company and having to learn fast.

How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?

I always make sure I fully understand the requirements of each job and always try to plan well ahead of time. As part of this endeavour, I aim to arrive as early as allowed within the timeframes. I try to anticipate any problems and have a ‘plan B’ where possible which allows me to cater to issues with the train networks or other public transport.

What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?

As a new starter receiving this award was a real surprise, but gratefully received! It’s always difficult starting a new role and the experience of my first month has made the job really enjoyable and run as smoothly as I could have wished for.

How many miles do you do on average a week?

During my first month, my mileage has increased week on week to an average of 550 per week. I wanted to ensure I did my very best on each job, and learning as I went along, so I did not overstretch myself by taking on too much.

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?

Regular checks of the portal and app throughout every day is a must! Detailed planning, a full understanding of the job requirements, and booking in jobs well in advance have also allowed me to work without pressure and meet customer expectations.

What drives you to succeed in this job?

I really enjoy being out on the road and the job’s flexibility is a real bonus while also having the ability to earn a good wage. Meeting new people and providing a good service definitley contribute to great job satisfaction.

Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?

I have been involved in running successful businesses in the past so I understand the importance of good record-keeping. I have an accountant and provide him with details of all my invoices, income, and expenditures on a monthly basis.

What are you most excited for this year?

I am looking forward to life returning to some level of normality.  Seeing family and friends with fewer or no restrictions will be great when it happens, and I am desperately looking forward to a couple of holidays in the sun! As restrictions reduce, I hope to be able to build on my work with Engineius so far.

What makes Engineius a special place to work?

I have been provided with a really good network of support from the Operations team, as well as one of my local drivers who have given me all the help, advice, and encouragement I could have wished for. Again, the ability to plan and manage my own workload alongside family commitments has been brilliant!

What is the best advice you can give other drivers?

As it’s so early in my time with Engineius I am not sure I can offer a great deal of advice. However, what I can say is to take the support on offer from others and ask questions if you have any doubts as there's always someone available to provide help and advice. The final thing is not to take on too much too soon and ensure every job is treated in the same manner.

By winning Driver of the Month, you not only have the opportunity to feature on the company website, but you will also receive a brand new high-vis Engineius-branded jacket as a thank you from the Engineius team for all your hard work! Could you be our May Driver of the Month?
